Bacardi’s Peaceful & Picturesque Riverfront Escapades

Some places bring out the best in you and make you feel things you’ve never felt before. For a dog, nothing appeals more than a leisurely walk beside a gushing river and innumerable whiffs of sweet nothings. The Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad is a special place for Bacardi. We have spent some remarkable mornings and evenings there. It is one of the top hangout places in Ahmedabad. The beautiful promenade is so peaceful and picturesque, he loves taking a nice long stroll every Sunday morning.

How It All Started!

My dad loved taking Bacardi on long drives. One day just out of the blue, he decided to take him and mother to the Riverfront road as it is an enjoyable long stretch of a road and perfect for such fun car drives. Initially, he would take him there for some time and let him sit on the benches. He eventually let him free there and Bacardi would have the time of his life smelling and sniffing all the nooks and crannies. This became their Thursday and Sunday evening ritual and Bacardi would eagerly wait for these trips.

They would sit down on the benches and would talk to each other and peacefully witness beautiful sunsets. Bacardi would also roam around the entire promenade, come back tired and peacefully take a nice nap on the bench near them while occasionally eyeing the crows cawing at him. Bacardi would often demand that my dad take him there. He would pester my dad relentless and bark till he heard the car keys clinking. It was a funny thing to watch those two go.

How Things Have Changed

Things changed when my dad passed away due to Prostate Cancer. Since his demise, Bacardi changed drastically. He stopped demanding his favourite riverfront walks and would gloomily sit near the sofa where my dad sat. There was a time when I used to protest being taken forcefully to these short trips. After a couple of months after my dad’s death, I decided I would make it a point to take him there every Sunday morning with my mom.

Since then, we started taking him for these long, lonely peaceful walks in the morning. Here, he would pensively gaze at the water or walk beside my mom calmly and enjoy the peaceful and quiet ambience. Our morning trips proved to be quite soothing and delightful. It became a ritual of remembering dad. It also became our getaway from the hustle-bustle of the city. We would forget all our worries for those two hours and just breathe in the fresh air.

Bacardi’s Birthday

It has been 4-5 months since we took him there because Corona basically took away a lot of good things and put us all under house arrest. But on his birthday on the 5th of August, 2020, we decided to take him there. After a long long time, we saw his eyes light up brightly after he saw the promenade from the car. Once we stopped, he just couldn’t get enough of all the familiar smells and his happy tail moved his entire body with exhilarating wags. He sniffed every little dried leaf and marked on every tree with a crazy vigour. He was finally at peace and enjoyed the start to his birthday.

We also made a yummy cake for him with all his favourite things and he gobbled it all hungrily. He was so tired because of his trip to Riverfront that he slept like a log as soon as he hit the bed.

A Final Note from Us

I hope you liked reading about this wonderful experience as it means a lot to him and puts a smile on his uncle-like squishy face full of fat and love.

If you are also planning to adopt a dog then these are the 11 things you need to remember.
